HARRIS CENTER PRESENTS
Thursday, March 23, 2017 — Sunday, March 26, 2017
Set amidst the razzle-dazzle decadence of the 1920s, CHICAGO has everything that makes Broadway great: knockout dancing, a ripped-from-the-headlines story about fame and scandal and one show-stopping song after another. Honored with six Tony Awards, a Grammy, and thousands of standing ovations, the longest-running American musical in Broadway history is coming to Folsom for seven performances so you can see it as never before—up close in the intimate Harris Center.
Note: CHICAGO includes mature themes and therefore parental discretion is recommended for children under the age of 13.
For the Harris Center engagement of CHICAGO, the role of Billy Flynn is being performed by film, TV and stage leading man Maxwell Caulfield. Of note, Caulfield also played this role in the long running London West End and New York Broadway productions. The role of Roxie Hart will be played by Kim Morgan Greene, also a veteran of film, TV and stage, who worked directly with the show’s creator Bob Fosse as one of his protégés early in her career where she appeared in the Tony Award winning Broadway productions of both Sweet Charity and Fosse, as well as 42nd Street. On a fun trivia note, this is a bit of a reunion for Maxwell and Kim who earlier worked together as man and wife on television’s Dynasty II: The Colby’s. A summary of their biographies and those of other cast members is available in the show’s Playbill Program Notes above.
The production and cast (the “company”) that is performing at the Harris Center is the newest of those authorized to perform and/or tour the show (there have been and continue to be multiple officially authorized productions/companies of CHICAGO, including the long-running production currently playing in New York, other “sit down productions” in various cities worldwide, and companies that tour throughout the world). While this is not the company originally scheduled to perform at the Harris Center in March 2016, or for the earlier rescheduled dates in August 2016, it is a comparable, fully professional company with equity actors/actresses playing lead parts and the same professional orchestra that was scheduled to play for the earlier scheduled dates. It is fully licensed and authorized by the team that owns “CHICAGO,” and all contractual arrangements were made through Columbia Artists Theatricals who manages all of the national tour activity for CHICAGO. The Harris Center is paying the full artist fees originally agreed upon for the engagement. In short, there have been no corners cut in this presentation. This information has been included in response to a patron’s inquiry about the production. The Harris Center fully expects that its presentation of CHICAGO will fully meet the Center’s standard for exceptional quality and entertainment value.
