HARRIS CENTER PRESENTS
An evening of ancient music—while transcendentally modern, even adventurous, at the same time. From Central Asia comes Huun Huur Tu, who almost singlehandedly introduced the outside world to the boundless wealth of Tuvan traditions when they began touring in the ‘90s, thanks in great part to their superior musicianship and capacity for intelligent innovation. Using traditional instruments—and their amazing technique of “throat singing”, in which one voice sings two and even three notes simultaneously—the ensemble draws subtly on 20th-century composers, funky rhythms, and the palette of electronica.
