Folsom Lake College Music Department

Folsom Lake College music ensembles, solo performance studies and creative music studies provide students with the opportunity to develop performance skills by the study of music through performance with a capstone experience in public performance. Additional classes in commercial music performance and technology introduce students to the latest developments in the field.


Folsom Lake College Choir is designed for the college student who is interested in a musical experience in performance. This all-college ensemble is open to all students and adult community members. The purpose of College Choir is to teach music through performance and to develop an appreciation for the art of choral music. Literature performed includes the standard choral repertoire, contemporary and ethnic choral literature. Class voice is also available for students who wish to develop their singing voice.

The director of the choral ensembles is Dr. David Newnham (NewnhaD@flc.losrios.edu ).

Folsom Lake College Instrumental Ensembles vary, ranging from jazz fusion to Afro Cuban Funk to traditional orchestras. Some ensembles are audition-only but others are open to all students or community members. The Afro Cuban Funk Band has a wide following and has toured to New York and Los Angeles.

The director of the instrumental ensembles is Philip Angove (AngoveP@flc.losrios.edu ).
