Ballet Folklórico de Sacramento

Ballet Folklórico de Sacramento (BFS), Sacramento’s own Mexican folkloric Ballet (Folclórico) dance company. A valued cultural and artistic resource throughout the western United States as well as abroad. Ballet Folklórico de Sacramento’s repertoire includes Mexico’s traditional folkloric ballet (Folklórico) dance pieces as well as indigenous danza rituals that are fused with elements from contemporary movement.

Ballet Folklórico de Sacramento, is the professional Mexican folkloric ballet (folklórico) performing Company of the Instituto Mazatlan Bellas Artes (IMBA) Center. IMBA Center a twenty years old non-profit with a primary purpose of enriching, enlightening and educating the community which its serves. We do this through teaching and presenting arts, as well educating on health, exercise nutrition and social issues. Ballet Folklórico de Sacramento is comprised of some of the best dancers in the Sacramento area, and is a means by which IMBA Center is able to connect with, enrich and enlighten audiences.

Dr. Zenón Barrón is the Artistic Director of Ballet Folklórico de Sacramento (BFS).

Zenón Barrón was born and raised in Guanajuato, Mexico where he began his training and love of dance at the age of 12. He studied dance with America Balbuena at the Universidad Autonoma de Guanajuato in 1976. He was honored with being selected to participate in the Cultural Exchange program with Casa Cultural Florencia Italia in 1980. He later became a member of the Ballet Folklórico de la Universidad de Guadalajara under the direction of Carlos Ochoa before deciding to expand his professional dance training by moving to Mexico City. He attended summer classes at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes in 1984 while a earning a degree as a Dancer, then auditioned and accepted to the world famous Ballet Folklórico de Mexico of Amalia Hernandez. He became a member of the resident company in September 1983 and later was promoted to the first company in January 1984 where he performed throughout Europe, South America and United States of America. In 1992 Dr. Barron moved to San Francisco and the same year he founded Ensambles of San Francisco, CA.
