“Hotter than the burning tip of a contraband Cuban cigar. Stronger than a straight shot of Havana rum. As exciting as a World Series game, with ‘El Duque’ on the mound. Explosive. Crowd pleasing. Rhythmically intense. Romantic. Dynamic. Jaw-droppingly good”
- Minneapolis Star-Tribune
Well known to North American jazz audiences—he’s toured America with the Afro-Cuban All Stars and was lead pianist, arranger, and musical director of ¡Cubanismo! for years— Nachito Herrera is one of the great Cuban pianists.
Event Length (Approximate):
Blending jaw-dropping technique and rich, powerful soulfulness in an exceptional display of musical power and emotion, Nachito Herrera combines Western classical music with traditional Cuban rhythms. Ignacio “Nachito” Herrera’s talent was recognized early on; he performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Havana Symphony Orchestra at age 12. While in his twenties, Herrera took the job of Musical Director at the famous “Tropicana” nightclub in Cuba, playing every night and deepening his repertoire. And he joins Carlos Santana as the most recent Latin musician to win an American Heritage Award from the American Immigration Council. “Hotter than the burning tip of a contraband Cuban cigar. Stronger than a straight shot of Havana rum. As exciting as a World Series game, with ‘El Duque’ on the mound. Explosive. Crowd pleasing. Rhythmically intense. Romantic. Dynamic. Jaw-droppingly good” (Minneapolis Star-Tribune).
