Enjoy an evening filled with variety as husband and wife Polish artists Maciej Ziemski and Jolanta Ziemska take a tour of their enchanting repertoire – expect music from multiple eras and countries and a surprise or two. Limited seating.
These two strong Polish musical personalities complement each other perfectly in instrumental virtuosity coupled with spontaneity and excellent ensemble playing. The unusual combination of piano and guitar along with a well-selected repertoire is the basis for their exciting and diverse Program.
Their repertoire includes Baroque, Classic, Romantic and Modern compositions. With their own arrangements of the works of Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), Frederic Chopin (1810-1849), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791), Astor Piazzolla (1921-1992) and Alexander Tansman (1897-1986) the two musicians offer the concert going public a new musical dimension. Their performances are polished and their interpretations are lively, brilliant and beautiful in sound.
Klavitarre has given recitals in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, South Korea, Spain, Venezuela, and the USA. Maciej Ziemski and Jolanta Ziemska were the creators and artistic directors of the International Guitar Festivals in Grotniki and Jarosław Poland and are now the organizers of the International Guitar Festival in Bremen, Germany, along with being the directors and founders of the private music school “ConTakte”, which is also located in Bremen.
As a Duo, Maciej Ziemski (guitar) and Jolanta Ziemska (Piano) have been performing together for fifteen years with both Artists graduating with honors from the Music Academy in Łódź, Poland. Jolanta studied with Prof. Tadeusz Chmielewski and Joanna Kaczmarska, whereas Maciej was a student of Professor Jerzy Nalepka. While studying their perspective instruments, they discovered their passion for playing as a duo as well as for each other.
From the start, Sacramento Guitar Society (SGS) concerts at Harris Center for the Arts have seen brilliant artistry from international artists. SGS productions at Harris Center have set the bar for world-class unamplified guitar artistry in the 100-seat Scott-Skillman Recital Hall, where the best classical guitarists in the world have dazzled listeners. SGS has presented Laurence Juber, Muriel Anderson, Alex DeGrassi, Andrew York, Peppino D’Agostino and Michael Chapdelaine in the 200-seat City Studio Theater where the mics pick up every detail from the lowest note to the highest harmonic.
Besides our signature concert series at Harris Center, Sacramento Guitar Society provides local access to high level artistic performances, workshops, monthly meetings, a community guitar orchestra, community outreach, information and plenty of good music! SGS is a non-profit educational and service organization that has existed in one form or another since at least 1961—drawn together by the classical guitar and its music.
