SACRAMENTO GUITAR NIGHT
RUSSIA! YURI LIBERZON & GRISHA GORYACHEV
Saturday, October 7, 2017 @ 7:30 pm
RUSSIA! It's in the news nearly every day. Take a break from the headlines and meet two Russian artists who dazzle with spellbinding artistry – YURI LIBERZON & GRISHA GORYACHEV!
Russian-born and Israeli-raised guitarist Yuri Liberzon ranks among today's foremost classical guitarists in the United States and the world. Yuri's success in the United States began with full scholarships to study with two of the world's leading guitar figures: Manuel Barrueco at the Peabody Conservatory and Benjamin Verdery at Yale University. Yuri's 2014 concert for SGS led to this account: "Hearing Yuri play is like opening a bottle of wine and realizing that you have just tasted one of the best wines you will ever experience. Ever." — Steve Roberts, Sacramento Guitar Society
A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, Grisha Goryachev is renowned for his extraordinary musical sensitivity and technical virtuosity in both classical and flamenco styles. Grisha began playing guitar at age six, studying with his father Dmitry, an acknowledged master teacher of the instrument. Young Grisha led an extensive career as a child prodigy at just nine years old and performed regularly before large audiences in the most prestigious concert halls in the Soviet Union. Following a tour of Spain, Grisha was invited to play for flamenco legend Paco de Lucía, who soon after personally intervened in support of his application for an American visa, which was awarded in 1997 for "Extraordinary Ability". Grisha's YouTube videos have collected over two million views and many notable comments. Grisha has recorded two CDs: Alma Flamenca and Homenaje a Sabicas.
Guitar fans – don't miss this "Russian Connection" at Harris Center October 7th!
From the start, Sacramento Guitar Society (SGS) concerts at Harris Center for the Arts have seen brilliant artistry from international artists. SGS early productions at Harris Center set the bar for world-class unamplified guitar artistry in Stage Three. Now SGS presents artists including National Fingerstyle Champions Muriel Anderson and Michael Chapdelaine, Laurence Juber, Peppino D'Agostino and more in Stage Two - where the mics pick up every detail from the lowest note to the highest harmonic.
Sacramento Guitar Society is a non-profit educational and service organization that has existed in one form or another since at least 1961—drawn together by the classical guitar and its music. Besides our signature concert series at Folsom's Harris Center, SGS provides local access to high level artistic performances, workshops, monthly meetings, a community guitar orchestra, community outreach, information and great music!
